Sumela Monastery
The Sumela Monastery is a Greek Orthodox monastery dedicated to the Virgin Mary at Melá Mountain within the Pontic Mountains range, in the Macka district of Trabzon Province in modern Turkey.
Nestled in a steep cliff at an altitude of about 1,200 meters (3,900 ft) facing the Altindere valley, it is a site of great historical and cultural significance, as well as a major tourist attraction within Altindere National Park.
Hagia Sophia
The former Church of Saint Sophia, now the Saint Sophia Museum, is a former Chalcedonian (Greek Orthodox) church located in the city of Trabzon in the north-eastern part of Turkey. It dates back to the thirteenth century when Trabzon was the capital of the Empire of Trebizond. It is located near the seashore and two miles west of the medieval town's limits. It is one of a few dozen Byzantine sites still existent in the area. It has been described as being "regarded as one of the finest examples of Byzantine architecture."
Uzungol
Uzungöl (English: Long Lake) is a lake situated to the south of the city of Trabzon, in the Çaykara district of Trabzon Province, Turkey. Uzungol is also the name of the village on the lake's coast. Over the years, the picturesque lake, its village and the surrounding valley have become popular tourist attractions. The lake is at a distance of 99 km from Trabzon's city center, and 19 km from Caykara's district center. It was formed by a landslide, which transformed the stream bed into a natural dam, in the valley of the Haldizen Stream.
The area is most famous for its natural beauty. Located in a valley between high rising mountains, the lake and village at first appear inaccessible. The surrounding greenery of the mountain forests and fog, occasionally enveloping the lake at night, also add to the scenery.
Ataturk Pavilion
Used today as Ataturk Museum, the pavilion was built by Konstantin Kabayanidis in the beginnings of the 19th century. The stone masonry on the exterior facade reflecting the European Reneassicance architecture attracts attention. Ataturk was hosted in this pavilion during his Trabzon visits on September, 1924 and November, 1930. In his last visit on the night of June 11, 1937 he decided to give away his personal assets to the Turkish Nation in this house.
Cal Cave
Cal Cave is recognized as the second longest cave of the world. A small stream flows through the cave. There is a historical castle over the cave. It is 5 km to Duzkoy on the southwest and has an elevation of 1050 m above sea level. The cave bifurcates into two in 200 meters to the entrance. It is understood that the castle was communicated with the cave through inner passages and in time these passages were covered due to the landslides.
Hidirnebi Plateau
The distance between Hidirnebi and Kurucam plateaues is 1 km. Hidirnebi Festival is held every year on July 20 in Hidirnebi Hill having an eleavtion of 1742 and it lasts three days. The plateaues are within Karadag Tourism Center. Karadag Festival is held every year on July 18-20 in commemeration of the local people’s struggle against Russian occupation in the years 1916-1918. July 20 is called as the “seventh of Orak”
