With its current structure Chamber of Commerce and Industry, founded in 1874, is one of the oldest chambers of Turkey.

Second half of 19th century is a historical period for Trabzon. Developments in naval trade, rapid advances in world trade brought many opportunities also for Trabzon. Especially, regarding the trade between Europe and Iran, India, Caucasians and Middle East, many struggles are interferred for Trabzon.

In an article written by Frederic Engels, the following statements are made : " There is a great contend between England, Russia and France for the control of Trabzon Harbor. One who controls this harbor will have a great superiority in the East."

Trabzon, with İzmir and İstanbul, continued its position of being an important center at which Ottoman Empire overcomes budget deficits till World War I. By the beginning of the War, Trabzon Chamber of Commerce and Industry had to stop its activities. It is thought that the documents about the chamber devastated in this period.

After the foundation of Republic, according the rules and regulations dated 1926 elections are made (March 25, 1926) and the chamber continued its activities till today without giving a break.

With the Law Nr. 5590 approved on March 8, 1950 "Commerce Chambers, Industry Chambers, Commerce Exchange markets and Chambers of Commerce and Industry" Chambers and Exchange Markets have gained a new identitiy and it is provided to be organized under one association.

In recent years, advances in communication,transport and data processing as a result of technological developments, spreading of market economy and decreases in conserved policies in international trading has brought to world to a single market. Therefore, the Chambers of Commerce and Industry take more place in Globalization and chambers has gained more importance.
